Although the celebration part of the portfolio process needn't be supported with tools or
organizers, it should not be forgotten. Celebrating individual learning and growth goes a long way
towards creating a true community of learners in the classroom and in the school. Here are a few
suggestions of ways to celebrate portfolios:
- Devote an entire period or afternoon to portfolio sharing and display. Serve snacks and beverages brought by students, play music and enjoy the feeling of a job well done.
- Invite parents in the evening to have their child show them his or her portfolio. This could be during parent-teacher night but can also be held in conjunction with another event at the school such as the Christmas concert or a play. It is important to separate the at times punitive vision of parent-teacher nights with the celebration aspect of portfolio sharing.
