You can subscribe to a variety of blogs or news feeds and the aggregator, or news feed collector, will show you all the titles of all the recent additions in your personal window.
You have to register and then can subscribe to any blogs or news feeds you wish to receive.

Short for application - these can be found for mobile devices.

Cloud Computing

Cloud computing refers to internet based applications. The applications are accessed through a web browser. Work is done online and saved online and can be accessed by any computer. Applications require login; many allow for sharing, publishing and collaboration.

Concept Maps

A way to visually represent information or to plan and brainstorm.

Creative Commons
A licensing system that allows creators to pre-license their work and specify how it may be used. Students can use creative commons licensed images / videos / sounds... freely, but must give credit with a link to the original creator.

Directory (for searches)

A directory is a search site that organizes information by subject. Directories are managed by people who make the selections for inclusion.

The text is formatted to flow in an eReader.

A feed or news feed is piece of code that lets you subscribe to information. News sites, blogs, social bookmarking sites and others have feeds to let you bring information to you automatically. Learn more about rss and feeds.

A new term coined to describe the phenomenon of tagging items, particularly when a group is tagging together. Wikipedia article

Geocaching
Géocache

This is like a treasure hunt. Played outdoors, participants attempt to find hidden objects (or places) which they locate via a handheld GPS unit.

Google Forms

a way of collecting data connected to a spreadsheet.

GPS - Global Positioning System
GPS - système de localisation
Satellite information and the triangulation of this information can pinpoint locations within about 100 metres via a GPS receiver.

This can be through the exploration of web sites,listening podcasts  or watching videos or using apps for instruction. It can also be using devices outside the classroom to gather information (interviews, photographs, videos) from people and places.

Online Collaborative Tools
Applications found on the Internet which allow for more than one author. Collaboration can by synchronous or asynchronous. The data is stored online (in the cloud)

OSS - Open Source Software

Software which is developed, with the code available to all so that it can be customized. It is often developed through collaborative efforts. Open source software is available free

PLN- Personal Learning Network / Professional Learning Network

A personal or professional learning network is created through connecting with others to learn, share, attract information sources for a personal or professional goal. In the past we networked with people face to face. As technology has evolved we are able to network virtually and "meet" people with similar interests. The network can help guide learning, answer questions and point to interesting articles, blog posts, podcasts...

Podcast

A podcast is a series of episodes which can be audio or video that are syndicated (available via a feed) so that people can subscribe to them. An audio file by itself is not a podcast. Learn more about podcasting

Quick response code - a QR code is a square shaped code. You can create them with a code creator and read them with a code reader app on a smart phone

The Read Write Web describes the applications that allow people to easily be publishers as well as consumers of information on the Internet. It is also known as web 2.0
RSS

Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary
If a site has an RSS feed you can have the information appear on a web site. When information in the feed is updated, it is automatically updated on the web site.
You can link an RSS feed to your browser to automatically get information (e.g. a news feed from a news site)
RSS feeds are what aggregators use to collect the newly posted articles to the blogs or newsfeeds you subscribe to.

Search Engine

A web site which collects information by keywords usually via computer algorithms. When you enter a search string or query, the search engine finds web pages containing those terms and indexes them according to relevancy.

Social bookmarking is a way for people to organize, search and share links.
Social Media

Social media are online applications in which interaction can take place. Facebook, blogs, wikis, youtube are all examples of social media.
Social Networking

Social networking is the use of internet sites (e.g. facebook, twitter) to stay in contact with friends, family, colleagues. You can "friend" or "follow" people to keep up with what people are doing through their microblogging, status updates etc.

Short for video blog - the information on a blog which is conveyed mainly through video. It may be raw footage from cell phones or edited short movies
Vodcast or video podcast
vodcast (video on demand) is a podcast that includes video. Unlike a regular movie file on the web, this can be syndicated just like a regular podcast.

Web 2.0
Web 2.0 often refers to the applications that have made it possible to easily contribute to the web, to collaborate and to pull information in to you through feeds.
Webcast

an audio or video broadcast done from a computer and streamed live. There is often a chatroom, so that participants can interact with the presenters. Many webcasts are archived and can be heard / viewed later.

Wiki
A wiki is a website that is easily edited so that people can publish to the internet. It is possible to create may pages, to upload images, embed web content and link to documents, other websites etc. People can work collaboratively on a wiki to co-construct.
