ELIJAH McCOY

Born in Canada in 1842 to escaped slaves, McCoy became an inventor, who held more than fifty patents. His invention of the "drip cup," to oil bearings while machinery was in motion, became known as the "McCoy System." This led to the familiar saying "the real McCoy" to describe something good and authentic.
